Grade 10 Healthy Active Living

Learn it. Move it. Apply it.

Build the knowledge and skills to lead an active, healthy life. Groundwork’s planned hybrid course combines online learning with physical activity, connecting what students learn with their fitness, training and everyday decisions.

Incorporate your existing team or training program, or complete the full course through Groundwork with a teacher-guided physical activity plan.

Two Ways to Complete the Course

Pathway 1: Incorporate Your Team or Training Program

Already participating in a sports team or structured training program that includes substantial regular physical activity?

Your teacher reviews your program and identifies how suitable training activities can be incorporated into your course plan.

Alongside your training, you complete online lessons, assignments, practical demonstrations and reflections. Your teacher also identifies any additional activities needed to address course expectations that your training does not cover.

You record your participation, demonstrate your learning and receive teacher feedback throughout the course.

Pathway 2: Complete the Full Course with Groundwork

You do not need to belong to a team or training program.

Complete the online lessons, assignments and physical activities through Groundwork. Your teacher helps you develop an activity plan using suitable spaces and equipment available to you.

You participate in a variety of activities, submit evidence of your learning and receive guidance and feedback throughout the course.

What You’ll Learn

Active Living and Personal Fitness

Participate in varied activities, overcome barriers to participation, and practise inclusion and fair play. Assess fitness, apply training principles, and develop, monitor and revise a personal fitness plan.

Safety

Take responsibility for safe participation and identify resources for physical activity emergencies.

Movement Skills and Strategies

Develop balance, travelling and object-control skills. Use movement phases and principles to refine technique. Apply rules, tactics and problem-solving across different activities.

Healthy Eating

Explore physical and emotional influences on eating, assess dietary choices and trends, and consider how consumers can promote healthier food options.

Mental Health and Personal Safety

Examine factors supporting mental, emotional and spiritual well-being. Practise conflict resolution and ways to reduce environmental and personal risks.

Substance Use and Addictions

Explore effects on well-being, responses to challenging situations, and addiction-related issues locally and globally.

Human Development, Sexual Health and Relationships

Practise informed decision-making and communication, examine misconceptions about sexuality, and consider relationships’ effects on yourself and others.

Living Skills

Develop self-awareness, coping, communication, teamwork, and critical and creative thinking throughout the course.

The Same Expectations for Both Pathways

Both pathways include academic learning and physical participation. Your course plan identifies the work and activities you need to complete.

Training hours alone do not earn course credit. Your teacher assesses your demonstrated knowledge, understanding and skills. Students in either pathway may need additional tasks or activities to demonstrate their learning.

How You’ll Show Your Learning

Your course work may include:

  • Practical demonstrations and video submissions.
  • Physical activity records and fitness plans.
  • Written assignments and reflections.
  • Projects, discussions and teacher check-ins.

Your teacher provides feedback to help you understand your progress and next steps.

What You’ll Need

  • A computer or tablet with reliable internet access.
  • A way to record and submit practical demonstrations.
  • Appropriate clothing and footwear.
  • Access to safe activity spaces and equipment required by your course plan.

Students using the team or training pathway also provide details of their program for review. Required supervision and safety arrangements are discussed when your activity plan is developed.
