Grade 12 Healthy Active Living
Learn it. Move it. Apply it.
Prepare to maintain an active, healthy life beyond high school. Groundwork’s planned hybrid course combines online learning with physical activity, connecting what students learn with their fitness goals, relationships and growing independence.
Incorporate your existing team or training program, or complete the full course through Groundwork with a teacher-guided physical activity plan.
Two Ways to Complete the Course
Pathway 1: Incorporate Your Team or Training Program
Already participating in a sports team or structured training program that includes substantial regular physical activity?
Your teacher reviews your program and identifies how suitable training activities can be incorporated into your course plan.
Alongside your training, you complete online lessons, assignments, practical demonstrations and reflections. Your teacher identifies any additional activities needed to address course expectations that your training does not cover.
You record your participation, demonstrate your learning and receive teacher feedback throughout the course.
Pathway 2: Complete the Full Course with Groundwork
You do not need to belong to a team or training program.
Complete the online lessons, assignments and physical activities through Groundwork. Your teacher helps you develop an activity plan using suitable spaces and equipment available to you.
You participate in a variety of activities, submit evidence of your learning and receive guidance and feedback throughout the course.
What You’ll Learn

Refine balance, travelling and object-control skills. Apply movement principles, rules and tactics across activities, building confidence for lifelong participation.

Personal Safety
Examine harassment, violence and abuse, including effects and legal implications. Explore prevention, responses and support resources locally and globally.
Substance Use and Addictions
Understand short- and long-term consequences, including legal consequences. Build resilience, practise healthy choices, and investigate local and international issues.
Relationships and Independent Living
Develop skills for evolving relationships, examine media bias and stereotypes, identify interests and strengths, and plan for maintaining health and well-being independently.
Living Skills
Practise self-awareness, coping, communication, teamwork, and critical and creative thinking throughout the course.
The Same Expectations for Both Pathways
Both pathways include academic learning and physical participation. Your course plan identifies the work and activities you need to complete.
Training hours alone do not earn course credit. Your teacher assesses your demonstrated knowledge, understanding and skills. Students in either pathway may need additional tasks or activities to demonstrate their learning.
How You’ll Show Your Learning
Your course work may include:
- Practical demonstrations and video submissions.
- Physical activity records and fitness plans.
- Written assignments and reflections.
- Projects, discussions and teacher check-ins.
Your teacher provides feedback to help you understand your progress and next steps.
What You’ll Need
- A computer or tablet with reliable internet access.
- A way to record and submit practical demonstrations.
- Appropriate clothing and footwear.
- Access to safe activity spaces and equipment required by your course plan.
Students using the team or training pathway also provide details of their program for review. Required supervision and safety arrangements are discussed when your activity plan is developed.
